Because of the difficulty getting appointments to get our rescue cats altered in a timely manner, we recently launched our pre-spay/neuter adoption program. The cat you are interested in may be part of this program and will have at least it’s first FVRCP vaccine, a microchip registered to us and will have been treated for internal and external parasites. Please fill out our screening form and after reviewing and confirming your information, our adoption counselor will reach out to you to explain the process.

UPDATE: All three siblings are doing amazing, and are now ready for their furever homes. Elliot and Chidi must be adopted as a pair. Dakota can be adopted into a home with another of our kittens or into a home that has another kitten or cat to be his companion. Here is their story..

Dakota was found and rescued on April 12th at around 10 days old. He went to a foster home and was paired with Lil Nugget, the lone survivor of his litter. Efforts were made to catch Dakota's mom and siblings but mom, even though she was ill, evaded capture. She was found deceased on the morning of April 15th. Three small frail kittens were found later that day and we got them to a foster for urgent TLC. They were a mess of dirt and fleas, weak and malnourished. They were bathed but didn't eat well. After a few hours, one of the kittens got ill and was rushed to the ER vet. Sadly, he passed away there. At the same time, the other two kittens (Elliot and Chidi) were acting ill and were rushed to the ER vet where they were stabilize and stayed the night. They were taken to one of our vets first thing the next morning for follow up care before going back to the foster mom. Later that day the boys were in trouble again and went back to the Vet. They perked up and went back home. They then went to a foster close to Dakota's foster where the two foster moms could help each other out with these four fragile babies.

Dakota had been doing well but some of the symptoms of his brothers started on  April 17th  and needed a vet visit. He perked up and went back home but was shaking more than normal kittens. On  April 20th  Elliot & Chidi went for a vet visit for a check up. They have had underdeveloped front legs that were getting better on Elliot but not Chidi. Plus the more use Elliot got of his front legs the shakier his bum got.

In April the Vet said they all may have Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH) also known as wobbly kitten syndrome. But there are also other things that can mimic CH. Only time will tell. He said with the very best care, nutrition and physical therapy they can develop to their best potential.

Thankfully they do not have CH! Elliot and Dakota have outgrown whatever was causing their neurological issues. They run and play like normal kittens!

Chidi, however, does have  ongoing neurological issues. She has weak leg muscles that make her clumsy and makes it challenging for her to potty. Otherwise she runs, plays, climbs, purrs and cuddles. She will steal your heart and love you for life! Check out our Facebook page for video of her and her brothers.

Thank you for your interest in one of our adoptable kitties. All of our kitties are fully vetted (age-appropriate vaccines, spayed, tested for feline leukemia and feline aids, and they are microchipped.) They live in private foster homes with their foster families. Our adoption fees are $75 - $125.

In order to match the best home for our foster kitties, we ask folks to complete our adoption application in advance; simply go to www.candyscats.org/forms. You will need to register on our site, then fill out an Adoption Application. We'll review your information and get back in touch with you.

Cats are not adopted first-come, first-served, but rather the best home for the kitty, but we do give consideration to the folks who take the time to fill out the application in advance. Almost all of our volunteers work during the week; to be able to meet one of our cats by appointment during non-adoption days (Saturday, 11 - 4, Sunday 12 - 4), your application needs to be filled out in advance and approved by our adoption coordinator prior to scheduling an appointment to meet with the cats.

Thank you once more for your interest in our wonderful cats; we hope we can find one that is the perfect fit for you and your home.
